Mozart’s Clarinet Quintet

Music for reed and strings

Mozart’s Clarinet Quintet was one of the earliest and now best-known pieces written specifically for the instrument. The beautiful blend of the clarinet with strings inspired many future composers. Pulitzer Prize and Grammy Award-winning Corigliano wrote for the same ensemble, whereas Françaix’s Divertissement puts the bassoon centre stage with the strings.
